It’s efficient, compact and can scale to any size from a wrist watch to Big Ben. That didn’t stop Aleksey Belyalov tho. He believes are more functional way (and more aesthetically pleasing) is a clock that fills up with white/black to indicate time of day. Marks along this long clock give you precise readings but even a quick glance is enough to determine the time of day. Silence is a conceptual alarm clock that allows you to program multiple alarms and wakes you without any sound. Each person wears a wireless rubber ring with an integrated vibration device that generates a tactile alarm. The snooze function is engaged by shaking your hand. However, each successive time you want to snooze, more movement is required, making sure you get to work on time.

source

New Mac Flexible OLED Monitor Concept

This flexible OLED monitor concept which supposes the OLED material would roll up inside the white stand and allow the user to choose the optimum screen size. It is called the iBangle and it is unique as well as ground breaking. It’s shares a few similarities with the iPod Shuffle like no screen and it has some other really cool features.

First of all, you will never drop the iBangle. You see that inner blue band? Just press the blue button on the side and it fills up with air, expanding to fit snugly on your wrist. Hit the blue button again and it will release the air.

Ear buds with the annoying cords won’t be found here, as the audio is transmitted via wireless ear buds. There’s a multi-touch track pad for easy navigation. It also has a few additional buttons for music control. Although the iBangle doesn’t have a screen, designer Gopinath Prasana figures you can navigate just fine with it’s audio-oriented navigation system.

The iBangle is not in production yet, but if it does come out I think it will be a hot item. Just be ready to pay a pretty penny for a musical bracelet.

E-Paper Slap Bracelets

Everybody had them or at least seen 'em. Slap bracelets were usually made of thin piece of aluminum wrapped in fabric. Using the same form, Chocolate Agency came up with a mini multimedia device that snaps on with a slap. The entire surface is E-Paper and possesses all its thin, high contrast, power efficient qualities. The length can be adjusted by adding magnetic snaps to the ends. Best part is there's no recharging needed. It gets all the power it needs via kinetic energy so go ahead, go slap happy.

source >>

Solar Power Sunglasses Can Charge Your Gadgets

With the snow coming down fast this time of year, we can’t help but dream of laying on the beach listening to our iPod and relaxing. But how to keep it charged? If we had this handy pair of designer sunglasses, we could keep our iPod or other iDevice fully charged while basking in the sun or walking around town. Designed by Hyun-Joong Kim and Kwang-Seok Jeong, these slick “Self-Energy Converting Sunglasses” feature dye solar cells that are integrated into their lenses. Although perhaps not as fun as using a yo-yo to charge your devices, this solar solution is probably a heck of a lot more practical and stylish to boot.

Jeong and Kim’s power-generating glasses are composed of a “cheap organic dye [that uses] nano technology [to provide] cheap but high energy efficiency.” The sunglass lenses can collect and convert enough energy from the sun to power small devices connected by a power jack at the back of the frame.

We expect to see solar panels integrated into more and more devices in the coming years. We’ve already seen photovoltaics used in bags, backpacks, lawnmowers, and cars, so these sunglasses are no surprise. As solar technology becomes more advanced and lightweight, sunglasses like these may even become the norm. It’s also a good thing that huge sunglasses are in style now, because that means there is more surface area for energy collection.

source >>

Gold Boucheron 150 Cellphone

The cellphones designed by the people at Vertu are typically high-end luxury phones, created with highly stylized designed and impossibly expensive price tags, and the latest phone is no different.

The Boucheron 150 cellphone is made from a single, solid piece of gold, making it the epitome in luxury phones available today. Resolution for the Phantom V12 tops out at a modest 1280-by-800 pixels, but this baby is built for speed. We're talking 6,315 frames per second at full resolution and up to 1 millions frames per second if you're willing to do a little tweaking. Shutter speed can be cranked up to 300 nanoseconds.

Targeted applications include laboratory work such as ballistics and explosions testing, but I'd say there are whole new artistic avenues to be explored for ambitious shutterbugs. Pricing seems to be in the "If you have to ask" range, but rentals are avaiable.

Logitech G19 Gaming Keyboard a Hot Pick

In the arena of gaming keyboards, everyone likes it a little different. In my opinion, I have an extreme aversion to the ones that have the gaming piece separated from the rest of the keyboard. Which is why for gamers, it’s important to find the proper tools that work well for your virtual battles. Well Logitech released an innovative gaming keyboard within their G-series product line up.

The G19 keyboard, of course, offers backlighted keys (which seems to be a prerequisite in the midst of gaming keyboards). It also provides a 320 x 240 pixel color GamePanel LCD that you can tilt. It can show fine points on the subject of the game you are playing, as well as will work with over 60 games (which includes, of course, World of Warcraft). It can also view pictures, and videos. The keyboard itself has 12 poles apart from programmable keys, by means of three diverse macros per key. It has two built-in USB ports. As a complement to G19 keyboard, they will also be releasing the G35 Surround Sound Headset and the G9x Laser Mouse.

Best Travel Clothing Steamer

Going out of town for a quick getaway and want to look your best? It’s kind of hard when you cram everything you have into your luggage. Not only do you look like you slept in your clothes, but you also give off the impression of a street bum. Who wants that right?

Make it easier on yourself with the handy Travel Steamer. This great gadget was selected by the Hammacher Institutes for superior wrinkle remover over the standard steam iron. This was tested on a large array of garments and was rated higher than all of its competitors. Made by Jiffy, the 600 watt travel steamer was able to produce 178 degrees of steam in less than 2 minutes.

This cool gadget was also selected for its ease of use features such as the easy to fill 8 ounce water reservoir, which was larger than all tested models via Hammacher. This steamer has an 8” cord that is long enough for anyone to use.

Next time you go out for business or pleasure, make sure you take this travel steamer with you. The one item that will make or break you with that important business meeting or date.

Windows 7 Beta Released To Public

Microsoft announced that they’ll be releasing Windows 7 Beta this Friday as a free download. This is great news for those who are sick and tired of the clunkiness known as Vista (which sold 300 million worldwide, go figure??).
The new Windows 7 promises to be a leaner, meaner version of Vista since it was designed, as Balmer put it, with “simplicity, reliability and speed” in mind. But don’t take his words for it, try it yourself this Friday. In 2009? Indeed, Kensington is going retro with a new design that they claim is the first to "allow users to navigate and manipulate digital content through the ball itself."

With all functionality now integrated into the ball, users can control all the many interface functions that support navigation, media control adjustments, document and photo browsing with the rotation of the ball. And the low profile stationary design with its ruby red ball sitting atop a sleek gunmetal gray base is visually striking, takes up minimal desk space, and enables a relaxed and comfortable user experience, without the need of a wrist pad.

Is the trackball poised for a comeback in an era of touch screens? I can see how a trackball could make handling digital content easier than a standard mouse, but there is a $130 barrier to entry when the device is released at the end of January.

Redwood Shores, Calif. – January 6, 2009 – Kensington Computer Products Group, a worldwide leader in delivering smart made simple computing accessories for the mobile consumer, today announced its SlimBlade Trackball for the Mac and PC that brings a whole new level of control, comfort and ease to today's digital savvy users. Kensington's breakthrough design combines hardware and software into one integrated interface for smooth operation allowing users, for the first time ever, to navigate and manipulate digital content through the ball itself.

The SlimBlade Trackball is the latest offering in Kensington's award-winning SlimBlade collection of smart and sleek computer accessories. The unique heads up display user interface shows users – right on the computer screen itself - which mode or function is enabled. This first-ever melding of hardware and software means that a user's hand never needs to leave the ball and their eyes never need to leave the computer screen. This revolutionary design allows users to focus on enjoying their digital content – not on the interface – and is especially valuable for providing instant feedback for immersive experiences. Navigation mode controls the cursor and scrolling; Media mode controls volume, play/pause, stop and next, while View mode zooms in/out and pans for accurate and efficient photo editing.

Recent CEA research shows that over 70% of the applications used in the home are centered on entertainment, music and media. Trackballs have long been used in the workplace, but as digitally-savvy families are taking advantage of the broad range of Internet-based sharing and entertainment capabilities and increasing the quantity of home computing activities, early Kensington research shows that the trackball is about to become the device of choice for personal use.

SlimBlade Trackball (SKU K72327US) – Your computing experience just got smoother. With the Kensington SlimBlade Trackball, you'll surf web pages faster, flow through your MP3 library more easily, and zoom in and out of your photographs efficiently with complete and seamless control at your fingertips. Now this is in progress at present and consists of transporting one entity to another geographical location. This may seem impossible but scientific research has found this is quite conceivable indeed.
Okay, all you need to get started is a “Transporter!” This could be anything, from a mobile handset to a complete array of electronic plates and a lot of Duracell batteries. However, silly as it might sound it has surpassed notion and is soon to be in development. So let’s all hope in 2050 teleportation could be made public! But this has only opened the door to new technology! Currently, there exists various patented, “Flying Cars”, but, again have failed to “take off” (No pun intended). But on a serious note - we have unearthed and have estimated that by 2050 no current car will be drivable! Now this might be because of the “Carbon Emissions,” law, which might rule out every gas powered vehicle. So move over gas, and welcome “Electric” power. Okay its hardly new, but we have listed an electric car that will give the Dodge Spider a run for its money!

Stop drooling…It’s called the Mazda Kaan, (yes it’s a Mazda) and it is “electric,” but do you want to know the best bit? It can drive up to mega top speeds of 250mph and it is soon appearing in the E1 - the Formula One of electric cars. In case you were wondering what those orange rims are…yep…you’ve guessed it - they’re wheels! So innovation in the making, it won’t be long until this thing will be able to fly.

iLogic Sound Hat - One for the Winter

Do I realize that the cold seasons have passed and that the heat of summer is just around the corner? Do I ever, and frankly I can’t wait! It’s understood that some of you out there are fall and winter lovers. That’s cool, I’m just not down with it. The cold seasons have that unforgiving side effect of shivering which is enough to warrant disdain from this chilly blogger.
Now that the steamy seasons of summer are quickly approaching, it’s time to start planning for the chill that will start moving in around September. One of the reasons I despise winter so much is the way that winter apparel is always in the way of me fulfilling my gadget duties. Wearing clunky gloves means I can’t text message properly. Wearing a hat to cover my ears means I can’t listen to my iPod without looking awkward or feeling uncomfortable. The iLogic Sound Hat allows for an ear warming and music listening synergy.

The iLogic Sound Hat allows you to plug your iPod or other portable media device directly into integrated speakers inside of the hat’s surface with a standard 3.5mm headphone port connected to a 98cm wire which is easily tucked away into the hat’s inner lining. The beanie itself has a fleecy feel on its interior, despite the hat’s composition of 100% polyester.

If you’re interested in grabbing the iLogic Sound Hat a few seasons early in preparation for the inevitable winter of 2008-2009, you can snatch up your own Sound Hat from I Want One Of Those for £14.99, which is about $27. As its name suggests, the invisibility cloak renders Harry invisible when he slips beneath the shining, silvery cloth.

This seems perfectly believable when you're reading about a fictional world filled with witches, wizards and centuries-old magic; but in the real world, such a garment would be impossible, right? Not so fast. With optical-camouflage technology developed by scientists at the University of Tokyo, the invisibility cloak is already a reality.

Optical camouflage delivers a similar experience to Harry Potter's invisibility cloak, but using it requires a slightly more complicated arrangement. First, the person who wants to be invisible (let's call her Person A) dons a garment that resembles a hooded raincoat. The garment is made of a special material that we'll examine more closely in a moment. Next, an observer (Person B) stands before Person A at a specific location. At that location, instead of seeing Person A wearing a hooded raincoat, Person B sees right through the cloak, making Person A appear to be invisible. The photograph on the right below shows you what Person B would see. If Person B were viewing from a slightly different location, he would simply see Person A wearing a silver garment (left photograph below).

Microsoft NEW Technology Surface - Brings computing to the table

After years of covert development, Microsoft says it will release a computer that uses the tabletop as its high-resolution display, recognizes objects placed on the surface and skips the traditional keyboard and mouse in favor of fingers on the screen.

The company envisions a variety of uses. In one example, people place a card on the table to call up a virtual stack of digital photos from a computer server and then rotate, resize and spread them across the table using their hands. In another, diners split a tab by dragging icons of their meals to their credit cards. Whether the technology catches on remains to be seen. Microsoft isn't the only company eyeing the market. But in the meantime, it isn't science fiction: Microsoft has been showing functioning models for months in closed-door sessions. The company is slated to publicly unveil the machine -- dubbed "Microsoft Surface" -- at a Wall Street Journal conference Wednesday. Microsoft says businesses will start deploying the machines in retail and entertainment settings in November. Starwood Hotels and Resorts, Harrah's Entertainment and T-Mobile are among those planning to use Microsoft Surface.

Longer term, the Redmond company says, it is aiming for the broader consumer market.

"We think this is a multibillion-dollar industry," said Pete Thompson, general manager of Microsoft Surface Computing. "We think this is something that is going to be pervasive. ... We don't want it to be a novelty."

The product is coming out of the same area of Microsoft that develops the company's profitable line of keyboards and mice.

However, Microsoft's whiz-bang technologies haven't always caught on with consumers. Past flops include the smart watch and the Portable Media Center. Its Zune music player was a belated response to Apple's dominant iPod. And the Tablet PC, a conceptual forerunner to the new machine, hasn't caught on in the way Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates predicted. In that way, the Surface machine will test anew Microsoft's ability to strike a chord with consumers, and to expand beyond its traditional Windows and Office software businesses. Price will be a major obstacle for the new machine to overcome if it is to catch on with mainstream consumers. Thompson declined to disclose terms of the enterprise agreements under which Microsoft is selling the machines, which include related software and services.

However, he said, "If we made this a product sale, think of it in the range of $5,000 to $10,000 per unit." But like he said it could be three or more years before it hits the broader consumer market. We just hope that we will have one of those soon :)

Philips Daylight Window Concept Presentation

I mean, this is amazing... something incredible... something unreal... With the bevy of reality TV shows and humdrum movies we quickly decided that what people do in real life is NOT significantly less exciting than what fictional characters on the screen experience... but for some reason, real life just SEEMS much more boring. However, after days of extensive highly-scientific double blind testing we were able to discover the difference... Background Music! Your real life experiences just don't have the needed dramatic soundtrack to back them up. Whether you're brushing your teeth, walking your dog or chatting up that cute girl in chemistry class you need the appropriate music and sound effects to enhance the experience. Fortunately we've developed the solution for this irritating life boredom problem with the Personal Soundtrack Shirt.

The Personal Soundtrack Shirt is an amazing new wearable audio solution that features a working speaker embedded into the front of the shirt. When you push the appropriate button on the pocketable remote you get music or sound effects appropriate for any situation... everything from drum roll, to cat call whistle, to western showdown. Check out the chart below to see the extensive list of built in sounds and suggestions on using them for dramatic punctuation in your everyday life.

Don't like the built-in sounds? No problem. Simply pop in your own SD memory card loaded with MP3 files to use your own sound effects and music. The Personal Soundtrack Shirt remote has buttons from 1 to 20, each can play a different sound. The filename of your MP3 file determines which button will be used to play the sound. So if you name your file "03.mp3" it will play when you hit the "3" button on the remote. If you add an "L" to the end of the filename your sound will loop until you stop it. So "04L.mp3" would play when you hit button "4" and loop endlessly until you hit a new sound or the pause button. Got it? Remember... all this is optional. If you don't want to add your own audio files you can simply stick with the 20 built in sounds. Full instructions for loading your own sounds are included in the package.

The Personal Soundtrack Shirt can also play sound from your portable audio player through the speaker on the front of the shirt. Simply connect your portable audio player to the audio "input" jack on the battery box of the shirt and power it on (you will need a male-to-male headphone cable, not included). The Soundtrack Shirt amplifies your music and you can use the volume control on your portable audio player to control the volume level of the shirt.

Spectrum Concept - Futuristic Cordless Communication Device

I don’t know what you will think about this device, but I think that this communication device is the most annoying product ever, and you’ll see in a moment why. It’s called Spectrum it represents the next-generation communication device. It’s an innovative device as it’s based on state-of-the-art technology, it’s cordless, and it has a cool design. Why annoying? Because it allows all inhabitants of a home to communicate with each other no matter their location in the house. You just need one device in every room, and the sound of your voice will be heard everywhere in the house. The problem is that when you will read something at your PC, your wife/fiancee/girlfriend/lover will have the possibility to interrupt you and ask you to take the garbage out.

I don’t deny the fact that it could be useful, but it’s very unlikely that your wife/fiancee/girlfriend/lover will bring you as many beers and hamburgers you want. However, this device will give you the possibility to active other voice-enable electronic devices in the house.

Well, this cordless communication device was created with simplicity and usability in mind, and Dutch-based designer Werner Helmich really achieved these goals. In order to repay his work, he was awarded the second price at the CAT-iq design competition.

Jolicloud - New netbook OS

Netbooks is what everyone is up to today. As they become more and more popular, it becomes more and more obvious that netbooks are very different from laptops and should be treated differently. It is the meaning that small display, keyboard, poor performance all together are willing to have a little bit different software, and sometimes maybe completely different program interfaces. Or probably what netbook users need is a new operating system, light weight and user friendly. Tariq Krim, Netvibes Founder, is also one of many, who are not satisfied with what OS his netbook is running, so here he is with an operating system aimed to fit well netbook user's needs. It is called Jolicloud and Tariq Krim says he will be realesing beta version of it pretty soon.

Since Tariq Krim has left Netvibes, I thing he had some time to figure out what exactly his operating system will look like, what will it offer and what will be cut away. As there is not too much RAM in netbooks to play with, Jolicloud will have to be on a memory diet in order to not occupy too much of it. Currently most of netbooks are running Windows XP which can easily be stripped a bit by unticking needless services and startup objects in System Configuration menu, but that is not an ultimate recipe. Tariq Krim suggested a Linux based operating system which is up to be more useable on cheap hardware. Interface is also an issue. On Jolicloud it will be a bit like iPhone's one might observe. Icons will be similar to iPhone's because on a small netbook's display they will be better seen. It will also matter because Jolicloud is a touchscreen supporting platform. Once again, Jolicloud isn't yet even in a beta version, and though it will be soon, Tariq Krim doesn't hurry to give out juicy details on Jolicloud, he only says to wait till '09.
